I call Biloxi home and am a wife, and mother of 2 grown children. I was very active
in their lives while they were growing up, doing many activities with them.....I was a
Tiger Cub, Cub Scout, Webelo Scout and Daisy Girl Scout Leader and helped
during many hot summers at summer camps at Camp Wilkes in Biloxi. I helped in
several of our church's Bible schools, specializing mostly in teaching arts & crafts. I
also was very involved in designing and painting sets for the plays they were in,
primarily at the Gulfport Little Theatre.
I primarily work in acrylics now, but also work in oils, pencil, pen & ink, chalk pastels,
watercolors, sculpy clay, and most recently jewelry making. | I sometimes accept
commissions for pet portraits.
My inspirations come from so many different ways. I am inspired by God and the
wonders He created in this world. I can be driving down the road, walking along a
trail or the beach, or sitting watching the birds....anything I see can bring an
inspiration. Music is a big inspiration, and words I hear people speak can
surprisingly come as inspirations, too. Stories I hear, and emotions of myself or
others....this list could go on and on.
In 1980, my pencil drawing of a bald eagle and my first chalk pastel of spring flowers
were accepted into a competition of South Mississippi artists that was sponsored by
the United States' State Department and were then included in a small
collection of art to be hung for a year in an exhibit at the United States' Ambassador's office in Barbados. I have also
painted several murals, the first being a large bayou scene painted with fellow artist and student at the Jefferson
Davis Campus of Biloxi, MS, and since then I have painted several murals for businesses and individual's homes.
I know that from about the age of 3, I very industriusly colored my way through many, many pages of the wonderful
color books my mother would supply me. My favorite themes were always the Bible stories, which would bring to me
a more realty of visual to the stories. I must have drawn thousands of pictures from very early on in my life of my
A huge impact in my life was when I was about 10 years old. I can't remember if it was photos in a magazine or a
television program, but the image of Michaelangelo's Pieta literally rivited my attention to the awesome beauty and
apprearance of how a cold piece of marble could appear to be real living flesh.
Other than Michaelangelo, I have also been influenced early on by paintings I saw in several Bibles, then DaVinci,
Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, and the magnificent photography of Ansel Adams.
